Warner Music Latina Swept the Latin Grammys

Strong and celebrated releases from Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz and Brazilian newcomer Maria Rita allowed Warner Music Latina to literally sweep the fifth edition of the Latin Grammy held on Wednesday at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium.

Considering the five awards that went to Alejandro Sanz's multi platinum "No es lo mismo;" the three categories dominated by the refreshingly surprising Maria Rita; and the awards secured by Chilean rock band La Ley, and by the Brazilian trio Nana, Dori, and Danilo, Warner Music Latina ended up collecting a total of ten awards, the biggest number reserved to a sole record label in the prestigious awards ceremony. Warner Music Latina won most of the crucial awards of the night:

In the middle of a stadium-size tour of his native Spain, Alejandro Sanz couldn't make it to the ceremony, but that didn't prevent him from winning the five categories in which his celebrated album "No es lo mismo" was previously nominated.

With the song "No es lo mismo" Sanz won the categories Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year, while his multi platinum CD was awarded as Album Of The Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Album, and Best Engineered Album.

The self-titled "Maria Rita" gave the daughter of the late Bossa Nova icon Elis Regina another three awards that confirmed both, her status as the most titillating appearance in Latin music business, and Warner Music Latina's dominance in the ceremony.

Maria Rita was the winner in the Best New Artist slot, and her debut album was awarded as the Best MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) Album. Her interpretation of Milton Nascimento's song "A Festa," recognized as the Best Brazilian Song (Portuguese Language) put the icing on the cake for the most important night of her short career.

Warner Music Latina's artists also awarded in the fifth annual Latin Grammy ceremony were the Chilean rock band La Ley in the Best Rock Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for its album "Libertad;" and the Brazilian trio Nana, Dori, and Danilo, that won as Best Samba/Pagode Album for its "Para Caymmi. De Nana, Dori e Danilo."
