XM Satellite Radio And Rhino Records Join Forces To Produce Exclusive XM Series And Specials
XM Satellite Radio, the nation's leading provider of satellite radio with more than 2.1 million subscribers, and Rhino Records, the world's leading pop culture label, will join forces to produce a wide range of music series and specials to be heard exclusively on XM.
Rhino is internationally known for its vast musical archives, including the enormous Warner Music Group catalog, as well as its dedication to music preservation. XM Satellite Radio shares Rhino's intense devotion to music, offering 68 channels of commercial-free music among its 120-channel line-up, with 24-hour channels ranging from hip hop to opera, reggae to bluegrass, underground rock to Broadway show tunes.
The XM-Rhino partnership is an unprecedented alliance to mine the Rhino vaults to produce in-depth specials about scores of artists, including Ray Charles, The Monkees, the Grateful Dead, Elvis Costello, Aretha Franklin, Chicago, Richard Pryor, and Dwight Yoakam, to name a few. These XM-only programs are heard on a variety of channels across the XM dial.
"XM and Rhino have joined together to create some amazing programs about artists we love. The Rhino music archives are a national treasure, and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase such a premier collection of musical works. While millions of Americans know and love the songs that comprise the Rhino collection, this is the first time that they can enjoy the true depth of Rhino music on the radio," said Lee Abrams, Chief Programming Officer for XM Satellite Radio.
"With very few exceptions, it has been a long time since I've thought about radio as a vehicle for musical discovery. That all changed the first time that I fired up my XM service," says David Dorn, Senior Vice President of New Media Strategy for Rhino. "XM draws on the biggest hits, while giving equal airtime to great album tracks and lost gems. Their programmers are passionate experts who really enjoy what they're doing, and we share that same approach and commitment at Rhino. With the depth of the Warner Music Group catalog, we're looking forward to a long and productive relationship of re-connecting fans with artists they love, and even more, to turning people on to things they've never heard."
